Cupertino residents recall the suicide of Monta Vista High School student Diana Chien, in 2004. Seven years later, the mother dog, Hung Wei, is one of  Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps 2011 winners for their outstanding contribution to the community, especially school students.

Since 2008, Wei was a volunteer in fundraising for Monta Vista top all night and serves as advisor to the Monta Vista student publication of the School of Management, True. Founded the publication in 2005, with the approval of the director as a tribute to his deceased daughter, who committed suicide in his second year at the University of New York at the age of 19.

"Teens need an outlet," said Wei. 'True to let you know that you are not alone. "

According to the idea of ​​Wei, True Lynbrook High School to start a similar publication, Aletheia. Both publications have been committed to educating the public about current issues in the lives of high school students.

"I would like the five high schools in our country have this type of publication," said Wei.

Wei encourages others, especially those who have grown children like to socialize with their service to the community through the church, the Rotary Club and Lions Club.

Wei was born in Taiwan. She first came to America after receiving his degree in Foreign Languages ​​and Literatures at National Taiwan University, considered the "Harvard" of Taiwan. He attended the University of California in Los Angeles for graduate studies.

When Wei received his MA in Teaching English as a second language, he moved to Silicon Valley with her husband, newly married to his career as an engineer.

As for his own career, instead of using his degree to teach, Wei real estate agent licensed to work flexible hours, allowing you to take care of your family.

Wei and her husband, Ta-Wei Chien, had three children before their first child has committed suicide. Now his two sons, two grown children. The child is now in college.

His involvement with the community, volunteerism and commitment to a long list.

Wei is a board member of the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation, which raises funds for the five district schools. She is also a board member of Asian American Parents Association, which offers mini-grants for secondary school teachers in the Fremont Union High School District, scholarships to eighth graders in five high schools in Cupertino Union School District and free seminars for parents.

Wei is also offered with a palette of butter, a nonprofit store in Los Gatos. butter palette runs entirely by volunteers, it is with all proceeds to benefit families EMQ First, a private non-profit aimed at children at risk in Santa Clara County.

In addition, co-chaired the first World Health Assembly Wei YMCA Bridge Run northwest to about 230 runners and walkers. She is on board the Northwest YMCA.
