Earthquakes Today!!!

Bernews received reports of tremors and / or scream at about 5:30 this morning [June 12], both by email and on our Facebook page.

People reported feeling shaking in areas such as Warwick, Somerset, Pembroke, Southampton and Spanish Point.

A person described as "a continuous rumble thud that a constant volume, which lasted about 15-20 seconds.

In response to our requests, the weather service in Bermuda [BWS] said they "received no notification of earthquakes and tsunamis today."

Neither the U. S. Geological Service, or the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre list of any seismic activity in the Bermuda area today. The activity that seems closer to us was a magnitude 3.0 earthquake in the region of Puerto Rico today.

Meteorologist Ken Smith, BWS said: "Bermuda Weather Service does not control the seismic activity, if we regularly receive reports of earthquakes and tsunamis of the American Center of the Pacific Tsunami Warning in Alaska resulting responsibility for our region (which are the points Focal Tsunami Warning for Bermuda). "

"We have not received reports of earthquakes or tsunamis today. Additionally, I checked the website of the U.S. Geological Survey, and find no evidence of activity in our region."

"If there was a rumor this morning was perhaps too low to register. Anyway, since earthquakes are not really the time field of public service, please visit the U.S. Geological Service for the most current information and precise. "

Checking the list of recent earthquakes in the U. S. Geological Service site shows no activity near Bermuda. The list on the website of Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre does not list any earthquakes in our region.

Places should be recalled that on 18 April, there was a 4.4 magnitude earthquake at 12:38 local time, which is estimated at 50 km west of Bermuda. Bermuda also saw other small earthquakes throughout history, including one on March 24, 1978 and October 25, 1883.

We asked officials from other reviews, and will be updated with additional information as possible.
